Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or when collecting the vehicle. This document outlines important terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will take priority.
Eligibility Criteria
Vehicle Rental Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Nelson Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old. Age restrictions may apply depending on the vehicle type, with surcharges for drivers under 25. A valid driving licence, appropriate for the vehicle category, must be held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of address are required, along with payment information and a security deposit. Additional criteria may be outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Dartford office. To confirm your booking, a deposit may be necessary. Full payment and a security deposit are usually required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include applicable VAT. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, you are required to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by you. It is important to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was received, aside from normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and appropriate charges will apply. Please return the vehicle with the fuel level at the same mark as it was when collected; otherwise, refueling charges will be incurred. Late returns may attract additional fees, so please inform us promptly if a delay is anticipated. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental, in addition to an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. Comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts can be found in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to help mitigate your financial exposure. It is prudent to review these options thoroughly. You will be liable for damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount unless you have opted for extra coverage. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies depend on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. Activities such as racing, rallying, and off-roading are prohibited, along with transporting hazardous materials. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is not permitted. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Use of the vehicle should align with its intended purpose, and passenger or weight limits must not be exceeded. Driving outside the agreed geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Nelson will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that may arise from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be handled exclusively by the courts in this jurisdiction.
Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately once posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
